Today, you will receive an email with a link at 9:45 for mass and honors. Please watch that, as it is very special and our "traditional" way to close out our school year and is a bit more sentimental as 7th graders - your last end of the year 'mass and honors'
Typically, on our normal ecology day we would be in jeans and our Catholic Schools week tshirt; we'd be going outside to plant flowers all throughout our gardens! Then we would have a presentation about an ecology topic! The past couple years were about our pollinators. Today, through distance learning, get outside, take a walk/hike in your neighborhood or at a park. Clean up your yard, or maybe even a neighbors. Do something for our earth and remember to send in any photos! Good Morning! I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend and is ready for some fun, last day of school activities. Today is Super Hero - Track and Field Day! Dress like your favorite superhero or wear a superhero tshirt and do some track and field day activities at home! Get outside and participate! Race a sibling or parent! Email photos to [email protected] or share on Facebook & Instagram Well 7th graders, we made it! Today is our last day of DL; you kicked butt for 9 weeks and summer is in sight. Grades are in & your hardwork has paid off and now it is time to have some fun. Next Tuesday will start our normal last week of school fun activities: growing green, fun day, then ending our year with mass & honors. More details to come on all those events as well as passing on. There is no history today as it is your last day for specials. Again, if you wanted to reach out to two long term teachers that you may never see again, they would be very grateful! Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend and I will be in contact with you Tuesday! 7th Science: So I know I said your last assignment and grade would be a quiz on the circulatory system; however, I fibbed. What I want you to to do is to write a post on a google doc, type it write it the text box with your name and submit it (for credit). What I want to know is throughout this year, while learning about biology (the study of life), what was your favorite part?.... To refresh, we started with what classifies a living thing; one of those characteristics being it has one or more cells and so that stemmed to cells. Before we learned the parts of a cell, we learned what makes a cell (proteins, lipids, carbs, DNA!). When learning about the cell & its organelles you made your amazing cell models! After a big chapter on the cell, we moved onto how cells make more cells - mitosis! Then we got into DNA and genetics. Then we delved into the crazy complex structure of DNA and we had to end right before what would happen if your DNA mutated. We covered the human body solely through distance learning, which was a bummer for me because this was going to be the most hands-on chapters we could do. But in your paragraph, tell me what your favorite part or topic was and why. Then tell me what I did that helped you learn AND tell me what I did that hindered your learning - or things that just didn't make the material stick, or tell me what I could have done better as a science teacher. 8th Science: Well 8th graders, congratulations. At 3:00 you are officially high school freshman! To say that I have enjoyed these past 2 years with you would be an understatement. I am truly upset I was not able to finish out the year with you and all of the 8th grade activities that you were robbed from. I know I have not been there with you to see your struggles through COVID-19, but just know that I am so proud of each and everyone of you, as are your parents. And you should be proud of yourself as well. Class of 2020, you have made me laugh, made me proud, made me frustrated, made me speechless, made me raise my voice, and made me a better teacher. Thanks for the 2 years of memories that I won't forget. I wish thee absolute best for everyone of you and I hope you enter and embrace this new chapter of your life, but don't forget your roots at SMS. If you ever have a science question in high school, please don't hesitate to find me! I love hearing from previous students. I will see you at all graduation! P.S. Shout out to Kayla, Katelyn, Jaedyn, and Kennedy for using power tools to make their own energy producing bicycle! Very impressive work ladies! 7th History: Great job on the discussion questions from the court cases! For today (our very last history class together) watch the video as we end the year learning about American history! Listen for the "journal question" that I want you to post on here for credit as our very last grade. 7th Science: Plan for one last quiz tomorrow! Our last science grade!! Today watch the two 5 minute videos on: 1. How the Heart Works and 2. A Ted Talk on what actually happens during a heart attack. In your journal write one new thing you learned from each video. Then submit the past week's journal responses.
8th Science: FINISH and SUBMIT your element essay today! Our last science grade for the year! Congrats, take a deep breath, one more day left 8th grade! Below the essay submission button is the Periodic Table of Elements Song if you wanted to give it a listen 🙂🎶
7th History: Watch the video for specific and detailed instructions on our last assignment based on the 4 court cases you read about yesterday. Use the PDF to respond to the questions and submit answers when completed. Use the readings posted yesterday to guide you. Pick one court case from yesterday to answer the questions about.
7th Science: Watch the video on the next dose of information on the circulatory system. In the video listen for the (4) journal questions. 8th Science: Continue working on your paper about your chosen element. Remember you can write any information that you'd like; just make it well written, in paragraph format, with normal writing techniques and standards. Refer to instructions posted yesterday for specifics. Submit it when complete. Good morning and happy last Monday! We have knocked out 8 weeks of distance learning and are down to less than 2 weeks! Reminders this week: keep logging in to stmarymtclemens for attendance and the daily items! There is no school this Friday nor Monday for Memorial Day weekend! 7th History: In preparation for our last history assignment that you will be working on Tuesday and Wednesday, read over the 4 court cases below. Each case is not even 2 pages; broken down into sections for easy reading. Take the time to read over all 4.
7th Science: The next portion of the information on the circulatory system includes last week's journal question on the 3 types of blood vessels - veins, capillaries, and arteries. Today, read the two pages on the vessels & complete the notepage filling in each box with a detailed description of each. You can use the PDF below, your textbook, or the internet to fill out the notepage. Turn in just the page you wrote on. For your journal question, answer the question "what blood vessel are you able to see on your own body?"
8th (almost freshman) Science: As your very last assignment for me - no it is not a double sided worksheet - you have the next 3 days to pick any one of the 118 elements, research that element, learn about it, and put your findings into a small 'research' paper. I am posting the rubric as well as the link to submit your paper for whenever you finish. It is due Wednesday, as Thursday is our last day of distance learning together! Element Essay Info: You may use any information about your chosen element. Your info can include a description on the history of it, how it was discovered, who discovered it, how they got the name, facts about it, special properties (melting/boiling point, density, color, appearance, texture, reactivity, etc), what 'family' (group) it is in. You can discuss how the element is used today and the importance of it. You can write about any topic on your element that you'd like. Make sure it is in correct paragraph format. I do not need MLA, but DO CITE your sources. The essay needs to be 12 font, double spaced, and 1 - 1.5 pages. No plagiarizing :) A little bit of a lighter workload today as we have May Crowning at 10:00 - use the link emailed out at 9:50 to access it. We also have class meetings with our homerooms at 1:00. Get your lessons and homework done and then get out your summer gear and go enjoy your 70 degree and sunny weekend! ☀️ 7th Vocabulary: Submit your cumulative test today! Congratulations, you just finished learning 300 new words! 🧠 7th Science: Continue & finish the assignment from yesterday; reading about the heart, answering the 15 questions in the document, labeling the diagram, and coloring it red and blue based on the flow of oxygen-rich or oxygen-poor blood! ❤️🩸 Answers from Wednesday's video: the white material on the heart was fat - that amount is actually a healthy amount! Remember fat stores energy and insulates. 7th History: The Rights of the Accused should be turned in by now! Today's only assignment (a very short one since we have May Crowning at 10!) is to watch the short video on the information on the rights of the accused. 8th Science: Due to today's class meetings and May Crowning - and it being your very last Friday (so I hope you're in your class tshirts and hoodies!), it is an easy day in science. Complete the "Periodic Table Worksheet - Find the Animals" using the periodic table of elements in your book. Directions: the first one is done for you as an example. The given numbers are the atomic numbers of atoms. Find the elements of those atomic numbers and write the element symbols to spell an animal 6 = Carbon 8 = Oxygen 74 = Tungsten (W) (The W coming from an old Swedish name of it) Submit it, then submit this week's (and thee last) journal responses! And that's all I need from you!
Reminder to take attendance and to check in with your 2 specials for the day! No history today and reminder that tomorrow at 10 will be May Crowning. Use the link sent out to watch it! 7th Vocabulary: Begin to finish and submit your cumulative tests today.
8th Science: 10 minute video with 7 questions to answer about it! Pause it as needed. The questions are in order! Write the answers in your journal! 1. What element is first discussed? 2. Hydrogen is the lightest atom; what atom is the heaviest? 3. What number is written on the heaviest atom when they show it? 4. How many elements total does the video say there are? But how many total atoms are there? 5. The video shows several metals being used to complete electrical circuits. When they show that aluminum conducts electricity, what 2 other metallic properties does the speaker say aluminum has? 6. What 2 elements are abundant in the earth's crust according to the video? 7. Why does the creepy voiced kid call it "the alphabet of the universe"? |
